A Vase Within a Vase
Bolina is a vase made of handcrafted borosilicate glass 3.3, distinguished by its unique double-wall construction.
On the outside, a clean, minimalist cylinder encloses a second glass form shaped within it, featuring soft, rounded volumes reminiscent of two overlapping bubbles. These are not applied or purely decorative elements: the inner structure forms the actual vessel, holding the water and flower stems.
The result is a fascinating interplay of solid and empty spaces, transparency and reflections. Water fills only the inner volume, while the space between it and the outer cylindrical wall remains empty. This distinctive construction reveals the architecture of the piece and creates the illusion that the water, flowers and glass forms are suspended in space.
The name Bolina evokes the world of sailing and the bowline, a secure sailor’s knot that creates a strong loop without tightening. In the same way, the glass appears to wrap around itself, tracing a continuous, soft and sinuous form in space.
Even without flowers, Bolina retains a striking sculptural presence: both a vase and a design object, constantly changing its appearance depending on the light, the water and what it holds.
